Set in the stained glass windows of the Hurva Synagogue in the old city of Jerusalem, a Jewish woman is painted into the space. Her innocent bare shoulders remind us of the strict laws governing the dress codes for women (and men) to ensure the covering up of the body, so as not to rouse one another into sexuality. In accordance with the laws of balance, the demonisation of sexuality has led to a dangerous underworld of perverse consumerism. The seeming innocence of this piece also speaks to the naivety of humanity, guided into a dark underworld via moralistic codes pertaining to human 'goodness'.
