This is the entrance to the Church of Sepulture in the Christian quarter of the old city of Jerusalem, where Jesus was buried and resurrected. Hidden in the artwork is a Christian Arab woman whose family was settled in the city of Haifa for generations until the war of 1948, when they were displaced like so many others at the time; Jewish and Arab women caught up in the fight for survival, with disastrous consequences in the region until today.
These artworks are to bring women of all creeds together, in the fight for peace, justice and safety for ALL people.
"I am the entrance of sacred doorways, leading you into the eternal resting place of Jesus - Christ. I am the pylons that hold strong when you feel weak and remind you of the brutish foundations that protect and keep the sacred teachings. I welcome you into the dark hallways filled with candle lights, where swarms of people buzz around his holy grave, crossing their hearts with prayers that roll off their tongues like ancient lullabyes... may peace be with us."
