This piece is created from a close up photo of the Armenian Church in Jerusalem, names after Anahit, the ancient goddess of fertility and healing, wisdom and water in Iranian and Armenian mythology. By naming her so, we reclaim the sacred powers of the goddess that have been smothered by the reign of patriarchal narratives and pray for an awakening of wisdom and healing for humanity.

The woman that you see painted into the Armenian Church window, is the daughter of a lineage of Armenian refugees that escaped to Lebanon during Turkish annexation in 1939 - following the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire in between 1918 and 1920. She merged her sacred body with the sacred architecture in alliance with women fighting to be seen and heard in their struggle, all over the world.

All women in the sacred series are anonymous and have shared their body canvas with the world as part of this project as a statement for women's global right to self-expression and safety.
